Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Prepping A Refresh For Surface 2

Redmond-based Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is in the process of developing a Surface mini tablet that will be the ultimate successor to Surface Pro 2, reports WinBeta. Questions were initially asked when Microsoft announced Surface Pro 3 without going through Surface 3 as was expected. The new device could launch as early as next month at Build 2015.

It is now emerging that Surface mini was canceled just days before its planned unveiling as Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) opted to pay more attention to Surface Pro 3. Sources indicate that the successor to Surface 2 will be unique, with the addition of new features while doing away with some, in the previous models. The new tablet won’t be Windows RT based and will be fan-less spotting a low spec’d CPU that is either Intel ATOM or Intl Core M based processor. For some time, there have been reports that the company was considering making a shift from ARM-based processors to low powered Intel CPU.

Should the suggested exclusion come into fruition, then they will solidify earlier reports that Windows RT is dead and that Microsoft is ready to move away straight into Windows 10. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) should announce the new device at this year’s Build conference meaning the device might come pre-loaded with Windows 8.1. The device should, however, be upgradable to Windows 10 which is to be launched, sometimes towards the end of the year.

WinBeta reports that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is likely to market the new device as a non-pro device. The company had announced earlier in the year that the existing line of non-pro Surface devices won’t be getting full upgrade to Windows 10, waiting to see if this will be the case with the new iteration.

It will be interesting to see the kind of hardware that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) will show off at the BUILD conference that is just round the corner. Perhaps the company might shore up its Lumia line with a new flagship device among other announcements.
