Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) has a Beat on the Internet of Things

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) doesn’t have a huge following when it comes to mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets. For this reason, the company often times falls behind others in the tech space, such as Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), when it comes to media attention. Of course, this doesn’t mean the company isn’t doing big things.

Microsoft has a strong beat on the Internet of Things, which could put the company in position to achieve great success in this area moving forward.

For example, the Internet of Things is known to bring many advantages to building owners. Heating and cooling systems, along with electrical, for instance, can be controlled by a centralized solution. As a result, there is a great return on investment, both financially and in terms of employee efficiency. Furthermore, this can have a positive impact on the environment.

Of course, this is easier said than done. If a building owner wants to take full advantage, they must have the best technology in place. Enter Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT).

Takenaka Corporation Turns to Microsoft

Takenaka, one of the largest construction companies in Japan, has taken notice of the Internet of Things and how Microsoft can provide assistance. According to a recent Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) blog post, Takenaka has implemented a “smart energy management solution based on Microsoft Azure.”

Here is an excerpt from the post:

“The system collects and analyzes large volumes of data from equipment such as air conditioners and lighting, and also on the flow of building occupants. The data is sent via the Internet to the cloud, where it is analyzed using Azure Machine Learning to create predictions and trigger actions, turning the heat on, for example, when rooms are in use; choosing the right time to turn down the thermostat to prevent waste. Takenaka expects the services will reduce building management costs – both in utilities and in staff – for its customers.”

As you can see, the hard part is getting the right solution in place. From there, the data is analyzed by the Azure Machine Learning, leading to cost saving triggers.

With the Internet of Things growing by the day, more and more companies will attempt to take a bite out of the pie. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is already having success in doing so.
