Microsoft Corporation (MSFT): Although You May Hate The Xbox One, The 360 Is Still Dominant

Despite the fact that many people are looking forward to what the next Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) gaming console is going to offer, it is important to not overlook how well the Xbox 360 continues to perform.

We don’t have to look any further than the official Microsoft blog for a better idea of where the Xbox 360 stands in the United States console market. According to the company’s most recent blog post, the “Xbox 360 maintained its position as the top console in the U.S. last month, selling more units than any other platform.”

This is great news for Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) as the company continues to show the world that its gaming console is head and shoulders above the competition.

While this success may not have anything to do with the company’s newest console, it goes a long way in showing that consumers are still interested in what Microsoft has to offer in this market.

Are you surprised by this news? If so, you shouldn’t be. According to data from the NPD Group, “May marked the 29th consecutive month that Xbox 360 was the best-selling console in the U.S.”

In other words, this gaming console has been going strong for almost three years now. It will be big news if the console is ever knocked off its rung at the top of the ladder. For now, however, it doesn’t appear that this is going to happen anytime soon.

“Total retail spend on the Xbox 360 platform in May (hardware, software and accessories) reached $149.8 million, the most for any console in the U.S.”

“During the month of May, Xbox 360 held seven of the top 10 console game titles including: “Dead Island: Riptide,” “Injustice: Gods Among Us,” “Metro: Last Light,” NBA 2K13,” Call of Duty: Black Ops II,” “BioShock Infinite” and “Halo 4.”

Last month, the world was introduced to the new Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox One. As you can imagine, MSFT is hoping that its new gamin console is able to continue to offer the same great experience as its current one. It goes without saying it doesn’t want to lose its spot at the top of the US market.
