Leon Cooperman’s Omega Advisors Boosts Position in Resource America Inc. (REXI) To Over 8%

Omega Advisors, led by Leon Cooperman, has increased its position in Resource America Inc. (NASDAQ:REXI). A new filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission showed that Omega Advisors owns 1.72 million shares of the company, up from 398,349 shares the fund reported in its latest 13F filing. The stake equates to 8.4% of common stock, and is passive by nature.

Resource America Inc. (NASDAQ:REXI) is an asset management company specializing in real estate and credit investments, with a market cap of $193.8 million. The company pays a cash dividend of $0.2 on an annualized basis. Shares of the company traded down by 2.97% to $9.48 on Friday.

For the first quarter, ended March 31, 2014, Resource America Inc. (NASDAQ:REXI) reported non-GAAP adjusted net income attributable to common shareholders of $2.3 million, or $0.11 per common share, compared to adjusted net income attributable to common shareholders of $2.4 million, or $0.11 per common share, for the same quarter of 2013. It posted first-quarter GAAP net income attributable to common shareholders of $990,000, or $0.04 per common share, compared to GAAP net income attributable to common shareholders of $496,000, or $0.02 per common share, in the first quarter of last year.

Yacktman Asset Management, managed by Donald Yacktman, disclosed ownership of 1.46 million shares in its latest 13F filing. Other largest shareholders of the company include Michael Zimmerman’s Prentice Capital Management holds 970,000 shares, and Rima Senvest Management, led by Richard Mashaal, owns 922,444 shares of the company.

Recently, in an interview on CNBC, Leon Cooperman shared some of his insights into the stock investing as well as some of his stock picks like Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (NYSE:TMO) and SandRidge Energy Inc. (NYSE:SD). Omega Advisors held 47.75 million shares worth $293.19 million of SandRidge Energy Inc. (NYSE:SD) at the end of the first quarter of 2014. Cooperman also held 847,800 shares of Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (NYSE:TMO), worth $101.94 million.

Last month, Omega Advisors disclosed owning 8.51 million shares of dELiA*s Inc. (NASDAQ:DLIA), the stake is equal to about 11.42% of the total outstanding common stock, and is passive by nature.
