Samsung Future Strategy: Is Samsung’s Chief Strategy Officer a Closet Apple Fan?

A Leading Company Cheaper Than 90% Of Blue Chips... And It Recently Bounced 12%Samsung Future Strategy: Everybody is an Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) fan, right? Maybe not everybody, but there are hundreds of millions of people who rely on the company’s many products. From the iPhone to the iPad among others, fan devotion runs deep.

While there is nothing wrong with an “everyday person” falling in love with Apple’s products, it is a bit strange when you hear that a high level executive at a major competitor feels the same way.

In a recent interview with the MIT Technology Review, Samsung Chief Strategy Officer Young Sohn talks about using Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) products at home.

When discussing strategy for the future, Sohn said:

“OK, so think about Apple compared to Samsung. I use a Mac, actually, at home. I’ve always used Mac, an iPhone, and an iPad. I also have the Galaxy. So I’m a great example. If you look at the strengths of Apple, in a way it’s not the product per se. It’s that consumers like their ecosystem such as iCloud. I like that my family 6,000 miles away in Korea is able to see my schedule and see all of my contacts and photos. It is sticky, but it is a proprietary architecture.”

Take a moment to let that soak in. One of the top dogs at a key rival is openly admitting to using Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Mac, iPhone, and iPad at home.

Likely taken aback, the interviewer followed up with the following:

“Wait, you are still using Apple products?”

Sohn answered, “At work I’m using Samsung devices; Apple at home, mainly because all of my systems and files are done that way. That’s sticky, you know? However, I did figure out how to sync all of my contacts and all of my schedules between the two different systems. You can do it. It’s a bit of work, but it is possible.”

Even if you don’t dig any deeper, you are probably stunned by the fact that Sohn would admit to using Apple products at home.

However, don’t forget this: Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung are currently mixed up in a heated legal dispute. This makes the interview by Sohn more awkward than it already is.

What are your thoughts on this story? Better yet, how do you think the people at Samsung feel about it?
