Touchscreen Chromebook: Is Google Developing a Chrome Touchscreen Device?

Touchscreen Chromebook: What do you think about Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) potentially developing a touchscreen laptop powered by its Chrome operating system? Do you think this is a good idea? Do you think the search engine giant has what it takes to compete with the likes of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and its popular Windows operating system?

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Google is well on its way to releasing this type of device in the near future. Here is what the article had to say:

“Google Inc. has developed the first touchscreen laptops powered by its Chrome operating system to be sold later this year, according to people familiar with the matter, as the Internet giant tries to go toe-to-toe with Microsoft Corp.’s Windows operating system.”

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)As you can see, it does not appear that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is wasting anytime bringing its new device to market. If this report is correct, it will be available to the public by the end of 2013. As you can imagine, the company would like to push the device to the public before the crucial holiday season begins.

At this point, you may have one question on your mind: won’t his new device be competition for the company’s other operating system, Android? The short answer is yes.

While this may appear to be an issue, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is not too concerned about any problems that could arise in the future. The WSJ article goes on to say “the company has said it is comfortable having two competing systems that help boost Google services such as its Web-search engine and YouTube.”

A firm launch date to the public has yet to be announced, although it appears that the device will hit the market later in the year. Along with this, there is no word just yet on which hardware manufacturer Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) will work with. One would have to imagine that Samsung might be the top choice, being that the company currently works with GOOG on its Chrome laptops.

Do you think Google is making a good move here? Do you think a new touchscreen device with the Chrome operating system will catch on? Share your comments below.
