Is Facebook Inc (FB) Closing In On Microsoft Corporation (MSFT)?

When it comes to gaming consoles, we know that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is one of the main players along with Nintendo and Sony. What some people don’t realize is that Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) could soon change this market forever.

Does this mean the social networking giant has plans on rolling out a console of its own? Not exactly. That being said, Microsoft could soon find itself losing ground in the gaming market.

As you can imagine, this would not be good news for Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) as the company prepares to talk about its latest gaming console in an unveiling ceremony later today.

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)For a better idea of what is going on right now and how Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) could throw a wrench in the plan, we don’t have to look any further than today’s “This vs. That” segment from Bloomberg.

Betty Liu shared the following:

“We look at a story with two opposing points of view. Today, we are focusing on the hotly contested gaming market. This is Microsoft, which is getting ready to unveil the latest version of its Xbox gaming system. The new console will use the Kinect sensor to recognize faces and recommend content based on users interests. Microsoft is facing competition from a slew of new challengers, in addition to traditional rivals like Sony and Nintendo.”

Now that we have Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) out of the way, it is time to see what Liu had to say about how Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) could disrupt the industry in the near future.

“So that is Facebook, which is building its own gaming empire. Two months ago the social networking company announced that the number of people paying to participate in games on its service rose 24 percent from a year earlier. Apple, Google, and Amazon are also introducing their own software and devices. These companies were nowhere in the gaming business five years ago when Microsoft debuted the last Xbox update.”

In the past five years, the gaming market has changed quite a bit. At that time, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was introducing an Xbox update. This time around, the company is doing the same but is now faced with more competition than ever before.

Do you believe that Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has the chance to do some major damage in the gaming market? If so, do you feel that this will negatively impact Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)?
