Google Inc. (GOOGL) To Intensify Competition Against iPhone 6 With ‘Shamu’ According To Elizabeth MacDonald

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) will unveil a 5.9-inch screen smartphone that it hopes will intensify competition in the phablet space in the wake of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) releasing iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Named ‘Shamu’ meaning ‘killer whale’ Fox Business Elizabeth MacDonald expects the device to be popular with customers in Asia pacific.

Nexus 6 is going to be the biggest smartphone from Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) and sure to increase competition in the high-growth market for big smartphones commonly referred to as Phablets. The device will be used to target the emerging markets where people have been known to go for phablet devices instead of buying laptops or desktops as a starter.

“The Shamu Phablet is so big; it is bigger than the iPhone 6 plus and bigger than the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The expectation is that Google new Device will come in at 5.9 inches, “said Mrs. McDonald.

The phone is reportedly being developed by Motorola Mobility, an entity that Google is believed to be planning to sell to China’s Lenovo Group Ltd. With the release of a new phone, Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) will also be looking to release an upgrade for its Android mobile-operating system.

The phablet market has grown over the past few years as more people become fond of big screen devices perfect for watching videos and playing games.

“We are looking at the growth in the sale of this kind of devices. There were only about 1% of global sales in 2011 now they are 24% of global sales for these devices, “said Mrs. McDonald

Apple will likely rethink its iPad product-line with a possibility of unveiling a new product that will compete hand in hand against Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Nexus 6 phablet. Google is hoping that other Android device manufacturers will look to develop more phablet’s as the demand in the space is expected to grow in the coming years.

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) will also look to make Nexus 6 affordable than iPhone 6 with better features and a quality display in order to achieve impressive sales especially in emerging markets.
