Google Inc (GOOG) Recognizes Top Scholars from Around the World

It is nice to see companies the size of Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) taking notice of students who are doing big things in their respective field of study. Most recently, the search engine giant has recognized “84 recipients and finalists of the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship and Google Scholarship for Students with Disabilities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.”

Not only has Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) recognized these students, but the company has taken things one step further by providing them with a scholarship for their education. As you can imagine, this is making life much easier for the many students who have been honored in 2013.

Here is what Google had to say about the scholarships:

“Both scholarships aim to encourage underrepresented students to enter the computing field. The Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship honours the memory of Dr. Anita Borg who devoted her life to encouraging the presence of women in computing; we recently announced the U.S. recipients of this scholarship. The Google Europe Scholarship for Students with Disabilities aims to help dismantle barriers for students with disabilities as well as encourage them to excel in their studies and become active role models and leaders in creating technology.”

Every student receiving a scholarship from Google is pursuing a degree in computer science or a related field, and is currently attending a university in Africa, the Middle East, or Europe.

The fact that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) would go to such great lengths to help these students is something it should be commended for. The company is not doing this as a way of gaining publicity, but instead as a means of helping others and giving students the push they need to achieve bigger things in the future.
