Google Vs Apple: Google Overshadowing Apple In This Key Arena

Google Vs Apple:  The Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android operating system and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS are fighting each other for market share all over the world. While there are other companies hoping to get in on the action, such as BlackBerry, these two operating systems are the cream of the crop.

According to data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, the race for the top spot in Great Britain may not be as close as some people expect.

Right now, Google’s Android appears to be dominating with 58.4 percent market share.

Google Inc (GOOG)Does this mean things will stay the same well into the future? Not if Apple has anything to say about it. Despite a recent decline of 1.4 percent, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iOS is still holding onto 28.9 percent of the market. Although this is less than half of what Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is showing, Cupertino is definitely within striking distance.

Dominic Sunnebo, global consumer insight director at Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, added some more information about Google’s dominance in Great Britain as well as other parts of the world:

“Android is the top selling OS across key global markets, only beaten by iOS in Japan and now accounting for 93.5% of the Spanish market. We expect to see a further spike in its share in the coming months, as sales from the HTC One start coming through and the Samsung Galaxy S4 is launched. This will pile pressure on Apple, BlackBerry and Nokia to keep their products front of consumers’ minds in the midst of a Samsung and HTC marketing blitz.”

As you can see, there is one issue staring Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) in the face: while it only has one smartphone to rely on, the iPhone, the Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) operating system is used by many competitors including Samsung. In the long run, this makes it much easier for the search engine giant to increase its market share and hold off Apple.

The data goes on to discuss how Samsung and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) “continue to dominate the top ten best-selling smartphones in Britain.”

After these two companies the competition weakens considerably with the LG Google Nexus 4 and BlackBerry Curve 9320 checking in.

Although the Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android operating system has a comfortable lead in Great Britain right now, Apple and its iOS are not going to rollover.
