Over the past few weeks, we have brought you a few stories concerning the Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Chromebook, such as this one on the availability of the device. Now, we have even more information for you regarding this computer with an eye towards the development process.

Digitimes recently spoke with the general manager of Google Taiwan, Lee Feng Chien, about the development of the Chromebook. Here is what the article had to say:

“Google runs a global Chrome OEM/ODM R&D center in Taiwan. According to Lee Feng Chien, general manager of Google Taiwan, the team in Taiwan is a major R&D team for developing Chromebook Pixel, besides the one at Google’s headquarters. Chien added that the team in Taiwan designs software, production process, touch panel features, as well as the work flow at manufacturing plants and market planning.”

At this point, Chromebook Pixel has not yet entered volume production. That being said, there is definitely a market for the device, with high-end business users being the primary target.

Google Inc (GOOG)Many people may not understand that the Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Chromebook Pixel and the Chromebook are not one in the same. The article goes on to note that “Chien stated that the main difference between Chromebook Pixel and the Chromebook by cooperating brands is that the former is the first Chromebook with touch features..”

For Google this is an interesting project that is sure to garner a lot of attention in the months to come, especially if the Chromebook Pixel becomes more mainstream as it is pushed to the public.

As interesting as this may sound, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is definitely facing some challenges along the way. For instance, Chien talked about the challenges associated with producing a touch-enabled notebook when many of the original applications were not designed to support this technology.

The article ended with the following:

“For the Google Taiwan team, Pixel is seen as a milestone. This is also an opportunity for Taiwan-based industries, said Chien.”

This is 100 percent true. The Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Taiwan team has to be excited that it has been involved with such an advanced and challenging project. At the same time, it means big things for many companies in the country, such as those in the Google supply chain.
