In the current round of 13F filings, hedge funds and other institutional investors are disclosing their equity portfolios as held at the end of the last year. In this piece, we are going to talk about Thomas A. Giovine and his fund Giovine Capital.
In its latest 13F filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Giovine Capital disclosed an equity portfolio with a total value of about $230.16 million, up from $192.65 disclosed at the end of the third quarter of 2013.
We have picked the five largest holdings from the Giovine Capital’s equity portfolio, in terms of value, as at the end of last year. Basically the fund has been bullish on its top picks and have increased the amount of shares in all of its top five holdings.
The first on the list is Forest Laboratories Inc. (NYSE:FRX) in which the fund disclosed an $11.48 million stake which contain 191,305 shares. Forest Laboratories Inc. (NYSE:FRX), a pharmaceutical company headquartered in New York City, recently announced the completion of its acquisition of Aptalis, a privately-held specialty pharmaceutical company focused on gastrointestinal disorders and cystic fibrosis.
Also, Forest Laboratories Inc. (NYSE:FRX) in January conducted a private placement offering of $1.8 billion of senior unsecured notes. The offering was comprised of $1.05 billion of its 4.375% senior unsecured notes due 2019 and $750 million of its 4.875% senior unsecured notes due 2021.
Vodafone Group Plc New (NASDAQ:VOD) is the second largest holding in which the fund disclosed a stake of about $10.85 million. The fund owned 276,158 shares of the multinational telecommunications company.
The third-largest holding is Masonite International Corp. (NYSE:DOOR) in which the fund disclosed a $10.02 million stake. The fund reported an ownership of 167,105 shares of the company. The company manufactures interior and exterior doors, door components, and door entry systems.
Giovine Capital disclosed the fourth-largest holding in Home Depot Inc. (NYSE:HD), which amasses 114,292 shares, with a reported value of about $9.41 million. Home Depot Inc. (NYSE:HD), the largest home improvement retailer, recently acquired Blinds.com, an online window coverings retailer in the world.
The fifth on the list is Herbalife Ltd. (NYSE:HLF) in which the fund owned 109,089 shares, with a reported value of about $8.58 million.
