“Revenue for the first quarter of fiscal 2014 was $3.1 billion, up 15% from $2.7 billion in the previous quarter and up 9% from $2.8 billion in the same quarter of fiscal 2013. The revenue breakdown for the quarter was approximately 71% for hardware, 26% for service and 3% for software and other revenue. During the quarter, the Company shipped 6.8 million BlackBerry smartphones and approximately 100,000 BlackBerry PlayBook tablets.”

Before we go any further, these numbers should show you that the company is indeed moving forward in the right direction. After all, revenue for the first quarter of fiscal 2014 was up 15 percent when compared to the previous quarter. Along with this, it is a nine percent increase when compared to the same quarter of fiscal 2013.

Also noted is the fact that Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry shipped 6.8 million smartphones during this quarter. This is big news for the company as it hopes for big things from its newest lineup of smartphones.

“The smartphone market remains highly competitive, making it difficult to estimate units, revenue and levels of profitability. Throughout the remainder of fiscal 2014, the Company will invest in BlackBerry 10 smartphone launches, and the roll out of BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10, to continue to establish the new BlackBerry 10 platform in the marketplace.”
