eBay Mobile App: “eBay Moda” Introduced In Brazil

eBay mobile app: eBay Inc (NASDAQ:EBAY) announced on Wednesday the launch of a mobile fashion app for Brazil. It is its first -tiptoe- step towards increasing its market share in this country. The decision challenges Brazil’s key online seller Mercadolibre Inc (NASDAQ:MELI), in which eBay has also invested. It is the first app specifically designed for this market, featuring clothing, jewelry and accessories for sale. The app will allow fashion enthusiasts to shop global products and brands directly from the palm of their hands.

eBay Inc (NASDAQ:EBAY)

The company’s head of local operations in Brazil, Luis Arjona, said that eBay “is committed to enabling consumers to shop the world”. He stated that the app named “eBay Moda” was specifically designed with Brazilian shoppers in mind, and with giving them access to the world’s fashion inventory “at attractive prices -anywhere, anytime”.

Despite only a very low percentage of Brazilians speak English, the company’s website -along with the new app- will only be available in this language for a period of time. Depending on how the initial trial goes, eBay will launch a version of its website and its app in Brazil’s native language, Portuguese, in the next 12 months.

More than half of the world’s Internet users come from developing markets and eBay is currently one of the world’s largest online retailers. International markets accounted for 52% of the company’s revenue in 2012. Therefore, eBay has a sizable global opportunity and is taking matters into its own hands in Brazil. The decision of launching “eBay Moda” takes place as part of the company’s global strategy. eBay aims to deliver selection and value to consumers in emerging markets, as well as to continue to expand into the fast-growing mobile space.
