Diamond Hill Capital Management Top Picks: United Technologies Corp. (UTX), American International Group Inc. (AIG) & More

In the current round of 13F filings, hedge funds and other institutional investors are disclosing their equity portfolios as held at the end of the last year.  One of these funds is Ric Dillon’s Diamond Hill Capital, which in its latest 13F filing disclosed an equity portfolio with a total value of about $10.96 billion, up from about $9.92 billion at end of third quarter of 2013. The fund holds a diversified equity portfolio with around 26% invested in the Financial sector, followed by Healthcare in which the fund holds around 14%.

We have picked the five largest holdings from the Diamond Hill Capital’s equity portfolio, in terms of value, as at the end of last year.

United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) is the first holding in which the fund disclosed a $320.69 million stake. The fund owned about 2.82 million shares by the end of the year, compared to about 2.76 million shares held by the end of third quarter of 2013.

United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) reported full-year 2013 net income attributable to common shareowners of $5.7 billion, up 17% from the prior year. The company provides high technology products and services to the building and aerospace industries.

American International Group Inc. (NYSE:AIG) is the second on the list. Diamond Hill Capital upped its shares in American International Group Inc. (NYSE: AIG) to about 6.02 million, compared to about 5.91 million. The fund disclosed a stake of $307.29 million in the company.

Medtronic Inc. (NYSE:MDT) is represented in the Diamond Hill Capital’s equity portfolio by a $302.61 million stake, which amasses 5.27 million shares. Medtronic Inc. (NYSE:MDT) is the world’s largest independent medical technology company. In January, Medtronic Inc. (NYSE: MDT) announced the relocation of its regional Middle East and Africa (MEA) headquarters to Dubai.

Diamond Hill Capital disclosed the fourth-largest holding in Occidental Petroleum Corp. (NYSE:OXY), which amasses 3.15 million shares, with a reported value of $299.62 million. Occidental Petroleum Corp. (NYSE: OXY) is an oil and gas exploration and production company that operates in the United States, the Middle East, North Africa, and South America.

Citigroup Inc (NYSE:C) comes in as the fifth most valuable holding in the Diamond Hill Capital’s equity portfolio, the position containing 5.70 million shares. The fund’s value of the stake amounts to $297.27 million.
