After ending 2015 with gains of over 35%, shares of the social media giant are currently trading flat year-to-date. For the last quarter, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) yet again managed to beat analysts’ expectation by reporting EPS of $0.79 on revenue of $5.84 billion, compared to the EPS of $0.68 and $5.36 billion in revenue that analysts had projected. The company is currently in the process of launching its new generation ‘like’ button, called Reactions, across all of its platforms. Analysts believe that this move will help the social media giant to increase user engagement. Reorganizing into Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL), along with solid financial results, helped the company’s stock climb 44% during the second half of 2015. Though the stock has inched down by 7% this year amid a slump of the broader market, most investors are confident that it will move higher, given the successes that the company’s new initiatives and products have seen in the last few months. On February 10, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released a letter stating that considers Google’s self-driving system as a ‘driver’. According to recent reports, the company is developing a standalone virtual reality (VR) headset and is also planning to grow its clout in e-commerce by including fresh groceries in its same-day delivery service. Jonathon Jacobson‘s Highfields Capital Management reported holding 362,956 shares of Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) during the fourth quarter.

Going into 2016, Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) remained Andor Capital Management’s top stock pick for the third quarter in a row. However, with Tesla’s shares declining by over 30% so far this year, it will be interesting to see if the company will maintain its position at the end of this quarter. Though most analysts are still bullish on the stock, a lot of investors are wary of buying it at the current price, citing the excessive valuation and the weak financial results Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) reported for the last quarter. For the fourth quarter, Tesla Motors reported a loss of $0.87 per share on revenue of $1.75 billion, compared to analysts’ estimates of EPS of $0.11 on revenue of $1.81 billion. Christopher A. Winham‘s Tode Point Capital initiated a stake in Tesla Motors during the fourth quarter by acquiring 115,000 shares of the company.
