Could This Google Inc (GOOG) Smartphone Kill Apple Inc. (AAPL)?

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS are one-two in terms of smartphone operating system market share. While this battle is sure to go on well into the future, there is something else to keep an eye on: the new Moto X from Google.

This could spell doom for Apple, now that Google is getting serious about offering its own smartphone as opposed to relying on other manufacturers, such as Samsung. There are many, including Guy Kawasaki (see the video below), who feel that the upcoming smartphone from Google could really put a dent in iPhone sales.

Should Tim Cook, Jony Ive, and the rest of the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) team be worried?

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)

It is hard to say exactly how the Moto X will be received by the public, but it is safe to assume that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) CEO Larry Page, as well as those working on this project, are expecting big things.

The Deal with the Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Moto X

Digital Spy recently dove into the finer details of why this smartphone could potentially offer more than the iPhone.

In an overall sense, the specs match up just fine with the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone. From its lightweight, at 130g, to its 4.7-inch Gorilla Glass display, things look good on the outside.

When we dig deeper, things get really interesting. This smartphone offers a variety of innovative features, such as “always-on voice technology.”

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL): You are on Deck

One thing we don’t want to forget is that Apple Inc. has its next generation iPhone on tap. In other words, Cupertino is going to have its chance to show the world what it has been working on.

Even more so, Apple could make a huge splash if the company decides to push a cheaper iPhone to market towards the end of 2013 or into 2014.

Things are getting exciting in the smartphone market. It used to be Samsung vs. Apple. Now, you have to throw the Moto X into the mix. This smartphone has what it takes to perform at a high level, and we are likely to see just how well it stacks up in the near future.

Although Apple has some competition, these hedge fund managers are sticking with Cupertino: David Einhorn, Christopher Hansen, Jeffrey Edwards, and Mark Diker.
