Could Google Inc (GOOG) Beat Apple Inc. (AAPL) to the Punch?

The fact that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) may be prepping to announce an iWatch in the near future is no big surprise. We have talked about this in past, such as in this article, and are keeping a close eye on every rumor regarding this device. While Apple continues to drag its feet, it appears that Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) is ready to jump into the game head first.

Is it possible that Google could bring a smart watch to market before Apple? While most people wouldn’t have believed this to be true a few months ago, it now appears that this is exactly what is happening.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) has big plans for the near future which includes both a smart watch as well as a gaming console. If the search engine giant is able to beat Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) to market, it is safe to assume that this will be yet another blow to Cupertino.

The report goes on to state that Google is making this move as a means of combating anything Apple may release down the line. In other words, the company is trying to beat Apple to the punch.

With the success of its Android powered smartphones, there is reason to believe that a Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) smart watch would be a big deal. This may or may not be a game changer for the company, however, it is safe to assume it wants to push its product to the market before Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is able to do so.

“Google’s planned watch is expected to connect to a person’s smartphone via Bluetooth technology, said people familiar with the matter. The Business Insider blog said in January that Google was “actively exploring the idea” of making such a watch.”

It appears that Google has come a long way since the first rumor of a watch made its way to the public more than six months ago.

There is no timeline yet for a smart watch release from either Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) or Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). For now, all we can do is wait around and see which company is able to make it to market first. Only time will tell if Google or Apple wins the race.
