Apple Inc. (AAPL) Needs to Catch Up To Google Inc (GOOGL)’s Maps To Compete With Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA)

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), the innovation leader, will have to take care of a certain problem before it can beat Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) in the competitive electric vehicles business they’re about to enter. Before entering into the competition, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) must catch up to Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Maps and improve itself in this area. A CNBC article discussed this big problem that Apple Inc. should fix before bringing an electric car into the market.

AAPL TSLA GOOGL

“Thank God the Apple Car is not launching today because that would be a major issue. Let me put it this way, if they don’t fix Maps, the car is not going to launch. They need it. But I think they will fix it, it’s that big of a problem,” said Gene Munster, a technology analyst at Piper Jaffray.

If Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) would have launched its electric car in the market at present, it could have been a total failure, because at this point, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) needs to catch up with Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Maps, which is currently dominating this area. Apple’s maps need a lot of improvements and according to Munster, Apple Inc. will fix it before launching the car into market because it’s a big problem and the company should not take this risk of not improving it.

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Maps are much better than Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Maps. Apple’s Maps’ app is so bad in fact that the police have had to warn people to avoid using it or it might kill them. Although, Apple’s iOS Maps app has improved since the early days, it still has a lot more room of improvement when it comes to producing and selling an electric car.

To compete with a tech giant like Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) has promoted its investment further in R&D and has the advantage of low-cost, high-power batteries as it prepares to launch its next electric car in 2017. If we talk about the advantages that a company may have, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is not without its own advantages. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) may have the advantage of learning from Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA)’s experience when it launches its newest electric car, before Apple Inc. Whereas, Tesla Motors Inc may get a benefit from those customers who want to try it first as soon as it arrives in the market and not waiting for Apple Inc. to bring its car in 2020, which will be three years later.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will  have to improve both sides of its maps, hardware and software, to move ahead of Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) and so it should catch up with Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Maps, which is already dominating this area. There are not good opinions about Apple’s Map app and it is definitely a big issue for the company to solve before it can bring an electric car into the market for its customers who otherwise give Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) high marks for its security and reliability.
