iPad Market Share: Apple Maintains Lead Here – Have You Seen?

iPad Market Share: Earlier today, we talked about Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s surge in the growing smartphone apps processor market. While the Cupertino based company finds itself in second place in this market, there is another in which it is having no trouble holding onto the top spot.

According to a recent report by Strategy Analytics, Apple has maintained its lead in the tablet apps processor market.

Steve JobsWhile this is no big surprise to most people, considering the fact that the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad and iPad mini are at the top of the tablet industry, it is important to note that the market has shown “an impressive 83 percent year-on-year growth in 2012 to reach $2.7 billion.”

As you can see, there is nothing small about the tablet apps processor market. Apple is well aware of this, and has to be happy with its position at the top.

Here is a brief excerpt from the report by Strategy Analytics, explaining where Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) stands right now:

“Strategy Analytics notes that Apple continued its dominance in the tablet applications processor market with 48 percent revenue share in 2012. NVIDIA, Texas Instruments, Samsung and Qualcomm made up the rest of the top-five vendors. Strategy Analytics identified that a handful of Chinese tablet chip vendors captured 20 percent volume share between them.”

Apple is in a pretty good spot right now, as far as its share of the tablet apps processor market is concerned. At 48 percent, Cupertino owns almost one half of the entire market. While the competition is sure to keep on the heat, especially Samsung and Qualcomm, Apple appears to have a solid grasp for the time being.

Sravan Kundojjala, Senior Analyst for Strategy Analytics, touched on how Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) stacks up against the rest of the market:

“NVIDIA led the non-iPad tablet market with 27 percent revenue share in 2012. NVIDIA scored high-profile design-wins such as the Google Nexus 7 and Microsoft Surface RT, which fueled 83 percent year-on-year growth in its tablet applications processor shipments in 2012. Strategy Analytics states that NVIDIA is well-positioned to address the high-performance tablet market with its new Tegra 4 chip.”

Kundojjala makes note of the “non-iPad tablet market,” which shows just how powerful Apple has become in this space.

Unlike the smartphone apps processor market in which Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is number two, Cupertino is riding at the top of the tablet apps processor market.
