Apple Inc. (AAPL) Loses out to Samsung – This is a Big Deal

Unless you have been living under a rock, you know that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung are locked up in court rooms all over the world. The two tech giants are waging war on a variety of patent related issues.

As things continue to unfold, every win for each side is going to be a big one. In the end, both companies want to feel as if they outdid the other.

While there may not be any end in sight right now, decisions are being made.

Apple Inc. (AAPL)Most recently, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) lost its first big patent ruling to Samsung. This may not sound like a huge deal, but for a company like Apple, one that puts so much time and money into its patents, it is a game changer. And as you can imagine, this is cause for Samsung to celebrate.

Bloomberg recently posted a video touching on this battle. Before we get into the specifics, here is what the video entails:

“Apple faces a ban on imports of some older devices including the iPhone 4 after a U.S. trade agency said they infringe a patent owned by Samsung, its biggest competitor in the global smartphone market.”

That pretty much says it all. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is facing a ban on imports of a few older devices, due to the fact that it was infringing on a Samsung patent.

For more information on this, let’s go to the video. Here is what Bloomberg Television’s Su Keenan had to say:

“In the patent battle of two tech heavyweights, Samsung wins and Apple loses. The iPhone maker now faces a limited ban on imports of some devices including the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3G made for AT&T and some iPads, after the US trade agency said they infringed on a patent owned by Samsung.”

As you can see, this does not impact all of the devices sold by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) but some of its “old time favorites” are included in the ban.

Keenan added a bit more:

“Samsung is Apple’s biggest competitor. In the global market for smartphones, this patent infringement and litigation is just one front in a battle with Apple.”

As Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Samsung continue to fight in court, neither will lose sight of what is most important. That being which company is sitting at the top of the smartphone market.
