iPad Hardware Update: Apple iPad Updates Coming in March?

iPad Hardware Update: Another day, another Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) rumor. This time around, we are going to examine the rumor that both the full-size iPad and iPad mini are set for an update in March.

According to a report by AppleInsider, Brian White of Topeka Capital Markets dug up some information during the recent CES event in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Brian White of Topeka Capital Markets said his checks with industry sources at this week’s CES event in Las Vegas, Nev., indicated both the fifth-generation iPad and second-generation iPad mini will debut this March, just five months after the last update was announced.”

For many, this is a dream come true. For others, particularly those who just purchased the new iPad mini, for example, this may be a bit disappointing. It can be difficult to come to grips with the fact that a tablet purchased only five months ago (October 2012) is no longer the newest one on the market.

The article continues by providing the following:

“White was told that the new “iPad 5” will be lighter and thinner than the fourth-generation model Apple released late last year. The updated model features a new A6X processor and Apple’s smaller Lightning chip but maintained the same design as the third-generation iPad released last March.”

What about the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad mini? What could the company possibly be doing after five months to improve the tablet?

“As for the iPad mini, White said the second-generation device is expected to have the same form factor. A new model would likely just have upgraded components, such as a faster chip.”

Although there have been many rumors about the iPad mini getting a Retina display in the next model, this is not something White discussed.

While it is safe to say that Brian White of Topeka Capital Markets has quite a few sources, nobody really knows where he pulled this information. AppleInsider added:

“Though many industry insiders attend CES, Apple does not have an official presence at the annual event. White did not indicate the source of his information aside from unnamed “checks” at the show.”

Since there are no official Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) employees at the event, it is safe to assume that White received the scoop from an industry insider.
