Apple Inc. (AAPL) iOS, Google Inc (GOOG) Android Leave Little Space for Others

In the mobile device market, you have the leaders and then you have the followers. At the present time, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) are among the leaders. This is due in large part to the dominance of iOS and Android, respectively.

Apple Inc. (AAPL) iOS, Google Inc (GOOG) Android Leave Little Space for OthersJust how dominate have these two companies become? While there are other companies fighting for market share, these two operating systems have not left much room. The other companies in this market are fighting for scraps as the two big dogs slug it out for share at the top.

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) has Samsung to Thank

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) CEO Tim Cook, along with the help of Jony Ive, put everything the company has into its iPhone. This is what the company has been doing since the first generation device, and there is no reason to believe this is going to change anytime soon.

Google, led by CEO Larry Page, has taken a different approach. This company allows others to use its Android operating system. And the big “other” at this time is Samsung.

While there are a number of manufacturers relying on this operating system, it is Samsung that has had the most success. In fact, this company has become Apple’s number one competitor.

Sundar Pichai oversees Android, among other Google projects, and has done a great job with not only the design and development but ensuring that the OS is in the hands of the right smartphone companies.

ABI Research recently dug into the finer details of the battle between Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS and Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android.

With the help of Nick Spencer, senior practice director, the study shows that Samsung is dominating the sales channel across the board, regardless of price point, with Apple being the only competitor at the high end of the market.

Simply put, there is little room for other vendors. This includes those that are using the Android operating system.

We have talked about this battle in the past, and are sure to keep an eye on it in the future. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS and Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android are leading the pack at this moment.

You can be rest assured that David Einhorn, Christopher Hansen, and Jeffrey Edwards, all of whom have large holdings of Apple, are keeping a close watch on the way things are playing out.
