Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) Files Lawsuit: To Stop Phony Reviews By Four Websites

Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) has been operating in the e-commerce sector for a very long time and every other e-commerce giant lets the customer write their review about the products, which might help the other consumers for their purchases. But there is always a possibility that the reviews could be phony which might push the customers into buying a product which is not worth the money that they pay. Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) has found some of these phony reviews by websites. CNBC’s Dominic Chu reported that Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) has filed a complaint against these websites.

Chu reported that Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is making a legal move against the phony reviews about products on its website. He added that the e-commerce giant has taken four websites to the court in Washington State. He mentioned that Amazon is trying to stop these websites from posting positive reviews about products, which can attract the consumers instantly and push them to buy these products. He added that each of these products cost around $20 a piece on average.

Chu pointed at Amazon’s comments that these phony reviews are misleading customers from trademark infringements and violation of consumer protection laws. He added that the bottom line is Amazon wanted to eliminate these bogus reviews as this might destroy the trust that the consumers has on the company.

“Amazon is suing to block fake products reviews popping up on its website. The e-tailer has taken four websites to court in Washington court trying to stop them from posting glowingly positive critiques of products that are sold for an average of $20 a piece. Amazon says the phony reviews are misleading customers from trademark infringement and violations of consumer protection laws and Federal Cyber Squatting laws. The bottom line, Amazon says bogus reviews can destroy the trust between customers and sellers,” Chu said.

The consumerist article gives more details about the legal action taken by Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN). The article states that the company has files legal suit against four websites namely, BuyAmazonReviews.com, BayReviews.net, BuyReviewsNow.com and BuyAzonReviews.com.

“Defendants are misleading Amazon’s customers and tarnishing Amazon’s brand for their own profit and the profit of a handful of dishonest sellers and manufacturers. Amazon is bringing this action to protect its customers from this misconduct, by stopping defendants and disrupting the marketplace in which they participate,” Amazon was quoted as claiming in the lawsuit in the article.
