ABC Apple App: ABC Working on App that could Benefit Apple

ABC Apple App: How would you like to watch live streaming of ABC programming on your Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) device? A few years back, this may not have been something you ever thought about. However, it appears that things are moving in this direction and the dream may soon become reality.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is actually the smart money’s second favorite publicly traded company but hedge funds have started dumping Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) in favor of a surprising financial stock (see which stock hedge funds are buying like crazy).

According to a report by The New York Times, ABC, a subsidiary of Disney, is working on an app that can provide live stream programming to smart phones and tablets. Obviously, this would include the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone and iPad.

Here is a brief excerpt from the article, explaining more:

“The app will live stream ABC programming to the phones and tablets of cable and satellite subscribers, allowing those subscribers to watch “Good Morning America” on a tablet while standing in line at Starbucks, for instance, or watch “Nashville” on a smartphone while riding a bus home from work. The app could become available to some subscribers this year, according to people briefed on the project, who insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about it publicly.”

Of course, this would not be the first time Disney had gotten involved in this space. For example, its popular Watch ESPN app provides people with the ability to watch live sports.

Unfortunately for all parties that stand to benefit, there are some hurdles in the way as defined in the same piece:

“Special hurdles exist, however, for the ABC app, in part because of contracts between the network and the companies that produce some of its shows that were written before mobile phone video streaming was even possible. Other complexities involve ABC’s local stations, which might — if not courted properly — feel threatened by an app.”
