Google Flights Flies Amid Competition

Google Flights was unveiled earlier this week, after five months of hold-ups by federal regulators.

Earlier this year, Google purchased ITA Software for $700 million in their bid to compete in the online flight tracker market place with Google Flights but the recent roll-out has received mixed reviews over ease-of-use.

Federal regulators initially stalled Google’s entry into the commercial travel market place, until Google agreed to license the software to other companies over a five year period.

Google Flights Flies Unfriendly Skies:

While Google maintains the core market share of online searches, primary competitors such as Kayak, Expedia, Orbitz, and Priceline hold the dominant position for online flight tracking. Even China-based search engine, Baidu, has indicated their willingness to enter the travel market.

Google Flights Still Learning to Fly:

Google, the online giant of searches, may be new to flight tracking, but their consistent adaptability is going to make the marketplace more competitive. Time will tell whether Google Flights will soar in online flight tracking.
