Google Inc (GOOG) and ‘The Internship,’ How was The Company Involved?

If you like funny movies there is a good chance you will be heading to your local theater in the near future to see ‘The Internship.’ If you have come across the previews of this movie, you are well aware that it is based on the two main characters, played by Vince Vaughan and Owen Wilson, working as interns at Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG). Sounds funny already, doesn’t it?

Like many, you may be wondering what kind of part Google played in the creation of the movie. After all, the search engine giant is not going to let just anybody throw its name around and make a mockery of its company.

In a recent Bloomberg video, Jon Erlichman was able to get a sneak peak at the filming from behind the scenes.

Google Inc (GOOG)No matter if you plan on seeing this movie, based loosely on life at Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), or are going to pass for the time being, you will find the report from Erlichman quite interesting.

Here is just a little of what he had to say:

“The idea of Hollywood making a film about a big tech company, in this case ‘The Internship’ about Google, is not new. Remember ‘The Social Network?’ But it is unusual to see a big tech company so involved in the making of a movie.”

This is an excellent point, especially when you compare the making of this movie to The Social Network. As you know, Facebook was not involved with the making of The Social Network in any way.

“Bloomberg West went behind the scenes of The Internship when the movie was shooting at Google headquarters. It is a moving about two non-techie 40-somethings who lose their sales jobs and set out to become Google interns.”

One of the most interesting takeaways from the video is that star Vince Vaughan, who created the screenplay, actually pitched Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) on the idea. In other words, the crew didn’t simply show up at Google headquarters one day with some cameras.

It will be interesting to see how this movie is received during the first weekend at theaters throughout the United States.

On the next page, you can watch the entire video for a better idea of how Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) took part in the filming of this upcoming movie.
