Here is the most recent study from ABI: Mobile Data Consumption will Explode in Latin America and Middle East to More Than 2.5 Gb per Month

If you don’t live in this part of the world, you may not realize that this is a big deal. However, smartphone companies, including Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), are sure to take notice. These companies want to know where the biggest growth is taking place, as it may help them change their approach in the future.

Here is what you need to know:

“Only three regions—Latin America, Middle East, and Africa—will see a mobile internet service revenue double-digit CAGR between 2013 and 2018. This is underpinned by the strong per subscription data consumption increasing at CAGRs of 45-49%. In other words, data traffic doubles in less than every two years on average, thanks to the increased availability of affordable smart devices in the near future. In 2018, Latin America and Middle East are expected to see an average user contributing more than 2.5 Gigabytes of traffic per month.”

As you can see, the use of smartphones in Latin America, Middle East, and Africa is on the rise. Users in these regions are expected to consume data at a higher rate than ever before over the next five years.

Ying Kang Tan, research associate at ABI Research, added the following:

“Nonetheless, a key determinant of the future consumption pattern will be the regulatory policies in the regions. For instance, the recent implementation of mobile number portability measure in Nigeria and the reduction in mobile termination rate in Honduras and Jamaica will go a long way in shaping the competitive landscape and encourage cellular usage.”

In the years to come, it will be interesting to see if Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), among other smartphone companies, continue to spend more time and resources in these regions.

It appears that this is a big opportunity for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and the competition, as mobile internet service revenue in Latin America, Middle East, and Africa will be growing quickly.
