Research In Motion Ltd (BBRY) Stepping Up In Canada

Nobody should be surprised at the fact that Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry is doing all it can to make headway in the smartphone market. The company used to be top dog, but over the past few years things have gone from bad to worse.

Fortunately for BlackBerry, the company has made some good decisions as of late and it appears that its fortunes are beginning to turnaround.

On June 28, BlackBerry is going to report its first quarter fiscal 2014 results. While nobody knows for sure what is going to happen at this time, some are expecting big things from BlackBerry.

Research in Motion Ltd. (BBRY)At this point, Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry is still trailing Apple and Google in the smartphone race. That being said, things are not nearly as lopsided in the favor of the competition as they once were. This is particularly true in Canada, where BBRY is making a big move.

According to a recent report by MobileSyrup.com, citing information from StatCounter, BlackBerry has upped its market share in Canada to roughly 30 percent. Even more exciting for the company is the fact that it has grabbed onto second place, moving past Android.

Here is more from the article:

“Another indication of improved sales is coming from tracking service StatCounter. SeekingAlpha pulled a report dated June 16th that showed BlackBerry having a mobile OS market share in Canada close to 30%, beating out Google’s Android OS (21%). The only stat that we can compare this to was from May when research firm Raymond James claimed BlackBerry’s market share was a measly 13.5%.”

If these numbers are true, it is big news for Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry. The company has been looking to regain its footing for quite some time, and now it appears that it is doing just that in Canada.

This is due in large part to the early success of both the Z10 and Q10, in correspondence with the overall positive reviews of the new BlackBerry 10 operating system.

We are not going to know for sure just how much progress Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry has made until its official numbers are released at the end of next week. What we do know is that the company is making strides and may be closing in on the top spot in the Canadian mobile market. Watch out iOS.
