Omthera Pharmaceuticals Inc (OMTH), Canadian Solar Inc. (CSIQ), PharmAthene, Inc. (PIP): Some Big Price Gainers on Tuesday

We will now take a quick look these three biggest gainers for Tuesday so far, which at the moment are: Omthera Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:OMTH), Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ:CSIQ), PharmAthene Inc. (NYSEMKT:PIP)

Omthera Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:OMTH) is up 96% to $13.30. This followed an announcement pre-market that AstraZeneca plc (ADR) (NYSE:AZN) planned to acquire the niche pharmaceutical company for $12.70 a share. The company concentrates on therapies for dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease. Epanova is currently the company’s sole product candidate, which lowers triglycerides and improves other key lipid parameters.

Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ:CSIQ)

Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ:CSIQ) is up 14% to $9.85. The solar panel and equipment manufacturer has had declining revenue due to competition from lower priced panels from China; quarterly revenue sank 19% to $263.6 million. The company did however considerably narrow its losses reporting a loss of $4.4 million, or 10 cents a share, compared with a loss of $21.3 million, or 49 cents a share, in the corresponding quarter of the prior year. The stock has more than doubled so far this year.

PharmAthene Inc. (NYSEMKT:PIP) is up 17.5% to $1.88. The company recently won a court case against SIGA Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:SIGA) regarding a dispute involving the ST-246 Smallpox drug. The ruling permitted SIGA Technologies (NASDAQ:SIGA) to keep the first $40 million of the net profits related to the sales of the drug, but thereafter awarded PhamAthene (NYSEMKT:PIP) 50% of these profits.
