Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has offered its software productivity suite Office free of charge to eligible students worldwide, through their schools. On Monday, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) announced the news on its Office Blog website, stating that students, who will be eligible in many new countries around the world, can get free Office from their schools.

“Millions of students around the world are eligible for free Office from their school and today we are announcing that we’ve made it easy for all eligible students globally to sign up themselves to get Office 365 and install free Office,” Microsoft states in the blog post.

A week ago, New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito had announced free Office for all of that city’s 1.1 million students and teachers at a public event held by the New York City Department of Education, which had delighted the students and teachers very much, but now Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has made the offer widely available throughout the world. The offer will now be available to  7 million eligible students in Brazil, 5 million eligible students in Germany, 1.3 million at Anadolu University in Turkey, 5.5 million eligible students in Australia, every student in Hong Kong, and millions more.

Previously, this offer was available only in the U.S., but starting Monday it can be freely accessed by eligible students and teachers where Office 365 is available. A valid school email address will be required to complete the sign up process. To check the eligibility for Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s free Office, students will need to go to office.com/getoffice365 and enter the email addresses provided by their schools. Teachers must go to office.com/teachers and enter their email addresses, also provided by their schools.

Signing up for Office 365, students and teachers can get the latest version of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Access and Publisher, installed on up to five PCs or Macs and up to five mobile devices like Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s iPad, Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Android and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s Windows tablets, with 1TB of storage on OneDrive, which can be used to store and share documents across all of the devices, and can also get Office Online for in-browser editing, collaboration and co-authoring.
