Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Updates: No More Xbox Free Music Service And Lumia Phone Will No Longer Have ‘Nokia’ Tag

Microsoft Corporation (NASAQ:MSFT) has decided to focus on its subscription plan alone for the Xbox music service. Microsoft has planned to kill its free Xbox music service on December 1. A ‘Cnet’ article explained in detail about this decision by Microsoft.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is most likely to have only the $10-a-month Xbox Music Pass. Xbox Music Pass serves the users with unlimited ad-free music streaming. The free service is an ad-supported version. Microsoft made a rather quite announcement about this through a post on Wednesday with any reason for this decision.

“We are focusing Xbox Music to deliver the ultimate music purchase and subscription service experience for our customers. Xbox Music Pass, you have access to millions of songs on your PC, tablet, Xbox, phone and the web,” Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was quoted as saying.

Amidst heavy competition in the sector with services like Pandora, Spotify, Google Play music, iTunes Radio and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Beats Music, Microsoft’s decision to cut the free service and opt to concentrate only on paid service makes a lot of sense. Even the other competitors who offer free services would finally try and lure the customer towards paid services.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has assured that already bought music will be available in the respective devices and MP3 files added to Xbox Music will also remain as it is. But they communicated that the saved playlists will be available for the users, but the user can only hear the music from play list only when they opt for paid service or the user buys them.

According to Nokia France’s Facebook page, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has decided to drop the Nokia name from the Lumia smartphones. Nokia Lumia phones might be called as Microsoft Lumia phones in the future. A Reuters articles explained the details about this.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) were in talks with the Finnish Phone makes from September 2013 and finally acquired the phone maker in April 2014. During the acquisition, Microsoft announced that it would retain the Nokia name for low end model for 10 years, but the name might not stay on for high-end models for very long. As announced, Microsoft is now planning to drop the Nokia from high-end Lumia smartphones.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)’s new CEO, Satya Nadella has started to focus on reducing the scale of handset manufacturing. Out of the 18,000 job cuts, which Nadella has announced, 12,500 were in the acquired Nokia unit.
