Changes at Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL)

Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL), which is undergoing internal restructuring, saw a global drop of almost 11% in worldwide shipments. The decline was actually smaller than in previous quarters, and its business in the Asia/Pacific market saw positive improvement.

Third-quarter results for the 2013 fiscal year reported a decrease of 11% in total revenue. Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL) suffered declines in revenue for commercial products in all of its business segments. The company’s latest 10-Q report admits to several challenges, such as competitive pricing issues in a global IT market, weak global macro-economic conditions, and competition from alternate mobile devices, which have limited the demand for Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL) products.

Conclusion

Since Windows 8 has so far not renewed consumer interest in the PC, it will be interesting to note what’s next for these top players. Emerging markets may offer possible growth opportunities to further expand the PC’s reach to other parts of the world.

For example, Dell Inc. (NASDAQ:DELL) has focused greater investment capital in areas such as Brazil, Russia, India, and China. Lenovo has aggressively pursued opportunities in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Japan to reach the first and second spots in the PC market in those countries. Time will tell if the PC can maintain its relevance and compete effectively with the multitude of other devices on the market.
