Mark Zuckerberg To Talk About Free Facebook Inc (FB), Messenger At MWC, Says Jon Fortt

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s Mark Zuckerberg may talk about the social network’s Messenger app and the company’s global drive to provide free mobile access to their service as the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer is slated to speak at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain today, Jon Fortt said in a report for CNBC.

Held every year, MWC is typically a venue for mobile device makers to showcase their latest flagship devices and moonshot projects. Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s CEO, according to Fortt, is expected to talk about his company’s issues directly connected to mobile.

Fortt noted that Zuckerberg talked about the idea of letting users trial free Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) last year. That meant people wouldn’t have to pay for a data plan for them to access Facebook on their mobile devices.

“They want to expand that plan this year. I talked to the Vice President of Growth for Facebook earlier today. He talked about that and said that the consumers who used that in the emerging markets, they saw 40% uptake in those consumers actually buying data plans after having tried them. So expect him to talk about that,” Fortt said.

Furthermore, the CNBC host said that Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s boss may boast about his company’s call on Messenger.

“Also expect maybe a victory lap on Facebook Messenger. It was very controversial when they split off that app and pushed off people out of the main Facebook app to do messaging. On that, Facebook now very clearly saying that it was the right call. It hit 500 million active monthly users and it’s still growing,” he said.

Stephen Mandel’s Lone Pine Capital increased its Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) stake by 57% quarter over quarter by the end of the last quarter of 2014, ending the year with about 13.5 million shares.
