Is Your Apple Inc. (AAPL) Computer a Risk to Your Health?

When you purchase an Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) computer or other device you expect it to meet all your needs, while providing a safe operating experience. The same holds true with electronic items from any other company.

While no tech company wants to deal with recalls, this is the situation Apple has found itself in.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, there have been reports of 5,100 MacBook Pro batteries, built by ATG, catching fire. As you can imagine, this is a concern for both Apple as well as the stores that are selling the computers.

Apple Inc (AAPL)The Associated Press is reporting that this has led to Best Buy recalling 5,100 replacement batteries. While this is not a huge number in the grand scheme of things, it is something that both companies are not happy about. It makes Best Buy look bad for selling the batteries, and the same holds true for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL).

The article added that both black and white ATG lithium-ion replacement batteries for the computers are being recalled. These faulty units were not sold directly by Apple, but instead through the Best Buy Geek Squad service.

There is a good chance that there are other retailers selling the battery as well.

It is important to note once again that the batteries, model numbers “MC-MBOOK13B” and “MC-BOOK13W,” were not sold directly by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). Unfortunately for Cupertino, some of the blame will be placed on the company.

Best Buy reached out to Gizmodo with the following statement:

“After receiving reports from customers of these lithium ion batteries overheating when charging, we believe the right thing to do is to contact our customers and ask them to return the product for replacement or for a Best Buy gift card. While we are only one of many companies that may have sold these batteries, we feel they are a potential fire and burn hazard and want to keep our customers safe. “

It is nice to see Best Buy taking the time to do the right thing. This is not something the company is proud of and it is not a situation that is going to impact many people. That being said, they know the importance of keeping its consumers safe.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) may not have any direct responsibility for this one, but since the batteries are to be used in their computers many will associate the problem with the company.
