Is Research In Motion Ltd (BBRY) BlackBerry Spending More on Parts?

If you have been keeping up with the latest and greatest out of the Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) BlackBerry camp, you know the company is doing whatever it can to increase its share in the smartphone market. While the company trails the leaders by quite a bit, its new operating system, coupled with the Z10 and Q10 smartphone, have the company moving in the right direction.

Those who believe that BlackBerry is up to big things and that the future is bright, are always looking for signs that the company is on the up and up. This time around, we have a report from DigiTimes stating that the company has “stepped up its purchases of parts and components, including small-size LCD panels, from suppliers in Taiwan thanks to strong sales of BlackBerry 10 devices.”

Like always, DigiTimes is stating that this information comes from sources in the supply chain.

Research in Motion Ltd. (BBRY)If true, this would be good news for Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) because it shows that the company’s new operating system is actually gaining traction.

At this time, there is no doubt that BlackBerry 10 is playing catch up. Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS and Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android are dominating the top of the market, leaving only a small share for companies like BlackBerry at the bottom.

But remember, there was a time when Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) was the top dog – and this was not that long ago. The company is looking to regain its former glory with the help of its new operating system.

Although this is nothing more than a rumor right now, there is reason to believe that it could very well be true. Sales of the company’s Z10 and Q10 smartphones have surprised many.

In fact, the Q10 is selling quite well in both the UK and Canada with its debut in the United States market coming soon.

Here is some more from the DigiTimes piece, showing why Research In Motion Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) may be spending more on parts:

“Component suppliers in Taiwan believe that BlackBerry is likely to further expand the BlackBerry family by releasing entry-level and mid-range BlackBerry 10 models for emerging markets in the second half of 2013.”

As you can imagine, if BlackBerry is going to release new models in emerging markets it will need the support of its supply chain to make a good impression.
