How Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Fits Into This Eye-Opening Data

The fact that the PC market has hit a slowdown is no surprise at this point. We have covered this story time and time again, including here, as new information is released. While this takes its toll on many companies, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is one that truly has to worry. After all, its Windows operating system has been top dog in this industry for quite some time.

Steve BallmerFortunately for Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), the notebook market saw some good things happen during the month of June. While this may not be a trend that is sustained over the long haul, it is better than the alternative.

Digitimes Research recently took a closer look at how the month shaped up, sharing the following information:

“Major notebook brand vendors and ODMs enjoyed on-month shipment growths in June with brand vendors together seeing a growth of 19% and ODMs 16%. Among the brand vendors, Hewlett-Packard (HP), Asustek Computer and Acer saw better growths, while non-top-five vendors had relatively weaker growths, according to Digitimes Research’s latest figures.”

Although this is good news for the market right now, when compared to shipments a year ago there is still a significant drop. This goes a long way in showing that the notebook market, despite its positive growth month over month, is still following in the footsteps of the PC market.

Here is more on this story, including some information on where Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) fits into the equation:

“To boost demand, Microsoft released its Small Screen Touch (SST) project in April to offer Windows 8 licensing discounts on notebooks with 11.6-inch touch panels, sources from the upstream supply chain told Digitimes Research that Intel also plans to significantly reduce the price of its upcoming Bay Trail-M processors in the second half.”

If it has anything to do with the PC or notebook market you can be rest assured that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is going to be involved in the conversation in some way, shape, or form.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds, as there has not been much talk about new notebook products and applications as of late. For now, all we can do is wait and see where this industry is headed. If nothing else, it is good to see month over month growth.
