Former Employees Sue Sony Corp (ADR) (SNE) Over Hacking

Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) is facing the first lawsuit filed against it since its recent hacking fiasco, Julia Boorstin of CNBC reports.

However, it isn’t another company or a prominent person in the entertainment industry that is suing Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE), it’s two former employees.

“The latest is a lawsuit filed against Sony, its first lawsuit since that hack attack revealed so much personal information and information about the studio. Two former Sony employees filed a class action suit in Los Angeles federal court on behalf of both former and current employees alleging that the studio was negligent and that it failed to secure its computer systems despite ‘weakness that it has known about for years’,” Boorstin said.

Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) suffered a cyber-attack last month wherein information including emails, documents, social security numbers, other information and even whole movies were stolen by the infiltrators.

This is not the first time the company has been infiltrated. The Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) PlayStation network suffered massive attacks in April and October of 2011. The PlayStation Network has even reportedly suffered an attack quickly after the hacking the Sony employees are suing about.

Meanwhile, Boorstin said that the employees suing Sony also allege that the company did not was not judicious in its response to the attack.

“The suit is also saying that [Sony] failed to timely protect confidential information of current and former employees from law-breaking hackers,” the reporter said.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the lawsuit was filed by Keller Rohrback, a Seattle law firm, on Monday.

Panayotis Takis Sparaggis’ Alkeon Capital Management owned 2.05 million Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) shares by the end of the September quarter.
