Battle Heating Up Between Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s CarPlay and Google Inc (GOOGL)’s Android Auto

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Android Auto and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s CarPlay, two car dashboard systems, are set to be the latest combatants on the battlefield between the two titans of technology. A CNBC article discussed the fight going on among these two companies for a better car dashboard system, and more specifically, the fight between themselves as they attempt to stay one step ahead of the other.

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Android Auto and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s CarPlay

According to John Maddox, who is the Assistant Director of the University of Michigan’s Mobility Transformation Center, consumers would like to have coordination between their mobile phones and their cars, which is why Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has come up with its Android Auto and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is bringing its CarPlay into the car dashboard market.

“Consumers have spoken. They expect to have coordination between their phone and their vehicle,” Maddox said.

Being technology and innovation leaders, both of the companies are focusing on fulfilling their customers’ needs and requirements as they are planning to bring electric and self-driven cars into the market for their customers in the next few years. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Android Auto is a new dashboard system which is meant to let a smart-phone power a car’s center screen. It performs tasks like navigation, communication and music apps, all while constantly talking to the cloud and to the driver. Whereas, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has also developed a rival dashboard system, known as CarPlay for its iPhone users which works the same way, with bubbly icons for phone calls, music, maps, messaging and other apps appearing on the center screen.

Over the past few years, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) have both become focused on the auto industry and both of them are struggling to get ahead of the market as soon as they enter into the competition. In addition to competing with each other, these two tech giants have to face another strong competitor, Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA), which is also planning to bring new electric vehicles into the market by the year 2017. It would not be an easy job for Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) to beat such a strong competitor who is specialized in the auto industry.

Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will not be the only two that will take benefit from their systems alone, as other dealerships will also get the most out of their systems and it’s only a matter of time before Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL)’s Android Auto and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s CarPlay will be seen in many other dealerships’ vehicles as well, because many of them will begin selling the cars capable of running these two systems in them. It has also been heard that Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F), by the end of 2016, will begin offering both Android Auto and CarPlay, and they will be available on all Fords sold in the United States.
