Apple Inc. (AAPL) Products Had Most Movie Placements in 2014

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)’s products gained the most movie placements last year, a report from Slash Film reveals.

Based on data from Brandchannel, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is revealed to have beaten fellow big name brands such as The Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) and Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) in movie placements last year.

“Apple products appeared in nine of the 35 films that topped the U.S. weekend box office in 2014, or about a quarter of all #1s,” Brandchannel notes.

However, it also pointed out that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) barely escaped clinching the top spot from its peers. The narrow margin is revealed to be just a single placement which was also said to have been in “The Lego Movie” where the character Lord Business talked about his iPod Shuffle in a scene.

According to Brandchannel, it has been three years since Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) products had the most number of movie placements. It won the firm’s distinction in 2010 and 2011.

“Apple’s appearance in over a quarter of all #1s in 2014 is a return to Hollywood form after 2013 (15% of #1s). But it’s still a far cry from Apple’s product placement golden age of 2009 (20 of 41 #1s) and 2011 (42.5% of all #1s). Indeed, between 2001 and 2011, Apple appeared in 34.4% of all #1 films,” the firm wrote.

The company’s products appeared on “The Lego Movie,” “Captain America: Winter Soldier,” “Ride Along,” “The Other Woman,” “Neighbors,” “The Fault in Our Stars,” “Think Like a Man Too,” “Gone Girl,” “Ouija,” “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” “Birdman,” “Sabotage,” “Breakup Buddies” (China), “Tusk,” “Let”s Be Cops” and “Sex Tape.”

Meanwhile, the most brazen movie trying to sell you stuff was revealed to be “Transformers: Age of Extinction” which had a whopping 55 brand placements.

David Einhorn’s Greenlight Capital ended 2014 with about 8.61 million shares in Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), down 7% quarter over quarter.
