Apple Inc. (AAPL) Looking Good Here, How is Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Feeling?

When it comes to the PC market, things have been taking a downward turn for quite some time. While this may not be a huge deal for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), it is something Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is keeping an eye on. With its Windows operating system, Microsoft has a lot of skin in the game (check out this piece for more on this).

Digitimes Research recently took a closer look at what is going on with global all-in-one PC shipments. As you can imagine, this market is impacted largely by both Apple and Microsoft.

On one side of things you have Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and its iMac. On the other side of things, you have everybody else. And within this group you have quite a few PCs that rely on the Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) operating system.

Here is some more information from the report, touching on recent growth:

“Although Apple’s weak iMac shipments caused global all-in-one PC shipments in 2012 to see the lowest on-year growth in the industry’s history at 2.3%, iMac shipments in 2013 are expected to grow significantly, boosting global all-in-one PC shipments by 17.3% on year. However, other brand vendors’ combined all-in-one PC shipments will only see on-year growth of 4.9%, the lowest growth in the past five years, according to Digitimes Research’s latest figures.”

As you can see, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is experience much better growth than the rest of the all-in-one PC makers. Whether or not this trend continues into the future is yet to be seen, but these numbers show that Cupertino is once again dominating while others struggle to keep up.

“Lenovo, which had the highest all-in-one PC shipments in 2012, is expected to see a slight shipment drop in 2013 and become the second-largest vendor. HP will see slight growth in 2013, but Dell and Sony will both enjoy strong increases, Digitimes Research figures showed.”

With the release of Windows 8.1, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is hoping to regain its footing in the months to come.

This is an interesting study, showing that the all-in-one PC market is making some headway. As you can tell by the numbers shared above, both Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) have a place in this segment. The question is, which company is going to do the most damage?
