Twitter Inc (TWTR)’s TV Timeline Targets Other Devices While Watching Shows

The battle to dominate as many screens as possible is alive and well. Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) is reportedly working on a second-screen experience called “TV Timelines” for people who are watching shows on television.

According to a report from Mashable, the new feature is a way for people to quickly access tweets and other media posted through Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR)’s services relating to content they are seeing on television.

“TV Timelines” are apparently out in the wild now though there’s only a limited number of people testing the new feature. Those people are all iPhone users too as the feature is only being tested for the iPhone app of the social network.

Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) is also said to have gotten some networks and shows involved in the test as shows like The Blacklist, American Idol and The Big Bang Theory are said to be participating in the limited test.

For those using Twitter’s iPhone app, using a hashtag for a TV show will elicit a prompt from the app to try out “TV Timelines”. Once the prompt is accepted, the app shows a special three-column interface that displays every media being put on Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) that’s related to the show. This includes tweets, photos, GIFs and videos.

The three columns offer a way to sort the content as they are organized into Highlights, Media and All.

It’s unclear whether the social network will collaborate with networks and the show producers in the future to put exclusive content on “TV Timelines” in the future. However, that may be the strategy to go for the company as well as introducing paid advertisement on the new feature’s interface.

It’s also not clear when Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) is expecting to rollout the feature to its broader user base.
