5 Most Expensive Golf Clubs on the Market

Today we dive into the world of golf as we take a look at the most expensive golf clubs on the market.

The golf has come a long way since it was first played on Scotland highlands.  In the beginning, golf, like soccer (or football, as it is known in Europe), was a game for the masses. It proved so popular in Scotland among common folk that several Scottish kings try to ban it, as it distracted the peasants from than mandatory archery practice. Today it is mostly viewed as the sports of wealthy elite and considering the price tags on some of the most expensive clubs on today’s market and cost of any of the 10 most expensive golf memberships, it seems that the perception isn’t wrong.

Just like the sport itself, the golf clubs have come a long way from wood and iron pieces used in Scotland back in a day. Today, the materials used in the construction look like they came straight from NASA’s space program. Carbon fibers, composite materials, and titanium are commonly used in the production of modern golf clubs. The clubs on our list do use some of the traditional materials like gold and diamonds though.

In this article we will focus on golf clubs that can be bought on the market at any time, not antiques or limited edition pieces.  For instance, the Odyssey diamond-encrusted 2-Ball putter cost $161,000 back in 2011, but only one commemorative club was made. Despite 2-Ball being one of the most popular putter models on the market, selling more than 4 million copies since it was introduced in 2001, this one was never meant for serial production. And with 240 rubies and 378 diamonds on it, it isn’t a wonder. Who would be crazy enough to use something like that on the actual golf course?

Another famous club that we didn’t include is Andrew Dickson Long-Nosed Putter.  The 18th-century club maker was among the first to sign his clubs with a stamp and this particular club reached $181,000 in an auction at Sotheby’s in 2007.

There are plenty more extravagant prices paid for golf clubs, like Arnold Schwarzenegger paying $772,500 for a set of clubs previously owned by John F. Kennedy in 1997.  Although back than Arnie was still married to Maria Shriver and officially part of Kenned clan, so that should be taken into account as well.

But even the most expensive clubs on our list won’t do much for you unless you have got at least some skill. And in golf, as in any other sport, the key to success is practice. So take your check book out and decide which one of these are the best fit for you. Or your wallet.
