Since the beginning of the Golden Age of comics (Superman, 1938), comic books have been very popular and were read all over the word. People liked the idea of superheroes saving the world!
Most people think of superheroes when they hear the word comic book, but there are several genres: superhero comics, manga, alternative comics, science fiction comics, fantasy, action, humor, horror, romance, children’s, and adult. Even if you had never read a comic book in your life, you probably heard about X-Man, Superman, Spiderman, Batman, Star Wars. Manga comics are also very popular all around the world. They are the Japanese equivalent to comic books and also a cultural phenomenon in Japan. Even zombies rose up from comic books in the 1950s, appearing in the comic books published by Marvel Comics! Some readers prefer mythology and swords, like Conan the Barbarian, and some of them prefer action comics where there are no superheroes and everyday people experience a conflict. The most popular alternative comic book is The Sandman, which is my favorite.

If you are a fan of comic books, you already know that 2015 is a big year for the comic book industry. There are thousands of comic books coming out in digital and print form every week, but one is certain, the best selling one in 2015 by now is “Secret Wars”! It is published by Marvel Comics and recalls the original 1984/1985 mini-series. In 2015 Marvel published a new Secret Wars mini-series, written by Jonathan Hickman and drawn by Esad Ribić. It’s picking up from where the “Time Runs Out” story line runs in Avengers and New Avengers ends. It involves combining the Marvel Universe with other alternate universes. The core limited series is nine issues long and five of them are already published. Secret Wars no. 6 is going to be published on October 7!
